nihil - <Far better for Intel to spin-off its networking business and IPO it -- making a focused networking company with a very high P/S (which could then acquire AMD), and a concentrated PC/Server company which could acquire SUNW. Mini-Microsoft 1 could acquire the PC company, and Mini-Microsoft 2 could acquire Nortel, and LU could acquire AT&T.>

My goodness!

Who would be signing my paychecks? ;-)

nihil, Intel/Cisco

I'm anything but an expert in monopoly law. But common sense:

There seems to be plenty of competition in networking, with NT and LU. Intel is relatively insignificant in that space, and it doesn't seem as if Intel/Cisco would change the balance.

In MP's, the balance stays the same because Cisco bring nothing to the table.

From a competition standpoint, wouldn't this deal be pretty much of a wash?
