Front-end impressive, back-end disappointing: Semiconductor Equipment : Oct total equipment book-to-bill was 1.09, up from Sept.'s 1.07; total bookings up 6% with shipments up 4%, inline with these expectations; Salomon Smith Barney calls the 9% rise in front-end bookings impressive with a 3% increase in shipments, leading to a front-end book-to-bill of 1.12; the back-end, however, was slightly disappointing, as orders dropped 3% with a 8% increase in shipments, leading to a book-to-bill below parity of 0.99.
