Is NN the plum that ASND was? Not in my book. In comparison I'd say NN is more wood and less fruit. Smaller fruit too. NN is cutting back and courting buyers. They have some decent products, but also some less popular goods on the wrong side of its life cycle. ASND was just coming into its stride as a company with some killer products (from recently purchased Cascade Comm.) when it was purchased.

(IMO) There is value in NN, just not nearly as much as ASND had at the time of its buyout. NN's marketing machine is gladly promoting comparison to ASND in order to generate interest and more suitors. There are not a lot of companies that can use the better parts of NN to compliment their own product base (without refit), and are large enough to pay the price. After investigation I believe that many of the suitors will consider NN to be too much chaff and a buy-out will not register big payouts.

The time is ripe to decide if my assessment is correct. If I'm wrong and there is a bidding war a strategic buy right now could produce a substantial windfall.

Sometimes you do need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

You have incorrectly stated that Marconi bought Fore. Fore was purchased by General Electric Corp., PLC, a British company (no relationship to GE of the US).

One of the other disaster I used to own couple of years back is GDC, which at one point, very early on, used to compete with NN in ATM space. They are now a much small company, have lost money for years but the share price moved up from 52 week low to about 5+ something recently. If any one is interested they can check out the news releases/products etc. but I did notice that Ericsson is using their ATM switches on some project in South America.. FWIW..
