Steven, I agree qcom needs to do something in China now, but I believe they are laying ground work and we will see results in short term. As an example, qcom has announced an intention to make investments where they will promote cdma. We saw an example in Korea recently. I have read that China telecoms need capital. Why wouldn't qcom make an investment in China Unicom with some of their partners like Nortel or msft. I know from comments & articles, Jacobs thinks that China is a high priority. I have seen Jacobs build the cdma product from nothing into a major force. I have faith that he will come through. Both you and Brian are correct that China is a huge market and it is best to get on the ground before others take over.
I would appreciate your comments or others on what if any type of initiative you expect qcom to make in China.
Thanks,
Robert

Steven..

Re China: Don't forget that the Chinese have to weigh GSM momentum against CDMA spectral efficiency. I suspect that when you consider the 2-4x spectral advantage and easy/evolutionary upgrade path, that all political considerations aside, it STILL makes economic sense to move to CDMA. BUT, will it happen?

Steve. Q will have to work through discounts and multiple suppliers in my humble opinion. You just can't trust China not to steal the family jewels if they had a joint venture plant in China making ASICS.
