The way StarOffice is better is that it's zero cost. Some will say that you get what you pay for, but that's not altogether true. Myself, I have no use for a feature packed suite like M$Office or WPs8. I don't even need most of the stuff in StarOffice. Star Office could be said meets the needs of *most users. That's important when you think about the cost of buying 1,000 licenses every few years at $100 to $400 a pop.

I think though that StarOffice actually HELPs WordPerfect n that it causes people to really focus on the non-value of M$ Office and if S.O. isn't powerful enough as a replacement option, WPs8 undoubtedly provides much more bang for the buck. In a world where suites in use are more heterogeneous, WP8 gains market share.

I'm really looking forward to WPs9 on Corel/Debian Linux. It sounds like THE ascended choice for XML authoring. Corel is out in front in a lot of areas in the Suite space. Between that, the brand, and changing market dynamics, I don't worry much about the future of WordPerfect.
