I do wish that you had come to us about the questions you raised in this post. We would have been glad to the questions you raise. At least I would have. I still am willing to discuss them. It makes me feel bad because I think we are well-intentioned, as you are, and we just have difficulty communicating sometimes.

You spoke of life experience as a reason for not *joking* about hunger. If you did not see the satire, so be it. But you made harsh comments without understanding intent. I have been homeless. And hungry, cold, scared as I scoured for a safe place to sleep, without medical-aid when I was gravely ill. I got Nihil's post as the scorching satire that it was. I wish I could say it so well.

When you find yourself in an alley, huddled under a blanket with a few folks you've never met before, you realize that a sense of humor might not save you, but at least you can die smiling, even if by all accounts you're dying a miserable, squalid death.

I'm thankful for every large and small thing people do to give a meal to someone.
