you wrote your post was directed to last mile deployment of wideband.
present last mile point to point fixed wireless is limited to 622 Mbp/s and short wavelengths. last july lucent announced 2.5 Gbp/s and 1.5 miles by using laser transmission of photons: light waves through the air. that's 4 times the bandwidth of wireless. now, 4 months later, i just got a news release from lucent that they offer 20 Gigabits per second over 5 kilometers!!! starting end of next year. that is an astounding 32 times the bandwidth offered by fixed wireless. think of the speed and amount of data they offer. i think everyone in LMDS, in the transmission of data in metropolitan areas, is going to have to offer light waves or be out of business. as far as pricing: you don't have to lease radio frequencies from the government to transmit light.
