bp, another step to take before donating. Check with your Better Business Bureau on national charities, and some local are covered.
They used to put out an annual report on all charities except the smaller, local ones. If they don't have a listing for the "charity", either call the charity, or check with the Chamber of Commerce. None of these are fool proof but, can limit funding to frauds. If I can't find any info, I tell the charity to provide proof they are legit. If they're not, I usually don't here from them again. This sounds like harsh measures but, there are so many fraudulent charities out there, that one must protect himself.
