Oh now I'm torn between the two sweet potato recipes you posted. They both sound so good--but I think this one sounds marvelous. I'm trying to please my 82-year-old stepfather who has such a pure palate and loves the tastes he remembers from his childhood. As I mentioned, he's a lifelong vegetarian. Not for any other reason except that his eccentric family catered to his childhood dislikes. He's in great shape physically, not as good mentally, but since his childhood memories are so vivid still, I'd love to make something that would ignite his early pleasure in southern sweet potato recipes. He adores a good vegetable dish the way some people love ribs or steak.

But I still don't know what pone means. The word has been bothering me all day, and I finally remembered why. From the Little Abner movie--or was it L'il Abner???. There was a song with the word "cornpone." I'm a complete northerner--what is pone?????

Thank you for taking the time to post the recipes--I appreciate it. Cheers to the beginning of the fat season.
