Dan--I disagree with your interpretation of why AJIC dropped the article.
I felt from reading the reason given they were not happy with the way GUMM was using the news to further their own ends. I think they were feeling used. I also feel this is a death blow to GUMM ever getting the article published in a scientific journal. This will IMHO alienate the scientific community.
All of this is opinion but while you are tending to be more positive about the withdrawl of publication I think GUMM dropped the ball and badly.
