Honda to set up two-wheeler plant in Haryana

Honda Motor Co Ltd, Japan, the largest two-wheeler company in the world, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation today for setting up its two and three-wheeler manufacturing facility at Manesar.

The MoU was signed by Hideo Tanaka, director, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (pvt) Ltd and Dr Harbakhsh Singh, MD, HSIDC.

The project will be owned and operated by Honda's newly incorporated wholly owned subsidiary Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (pvt) Ltd.

Honda expects to commence commercial production by later half of 2001 at the new plant with 4-stroke scooters.

Initial production capacity would be 100,000 units per annum, which would be increased to 300,000 units by year 2004.

At optimum capacity the project proposes to employ around 1,800 persons and will be committed to socio-economic development through quality products, environment friendly technology and compliance with emission norms, Tanaka said.

The following is a tribute coming from Sethi.
But Sethi's view on Kashmir is faulty at best. Most of the pakis have one-track mind: Give us Kashmir and everything will be fine and dandy. What about the secular principle on which India was founded. That doesn't permit ceding Kashmir or expelling Millions of Indian Muslims. Kashmir, Kasmiris, both Hindu and Muslim and Indian Muslims are part and parcel of India. That is India's stand. A political party or a politician can't survive after ceding Kashmir. The Fringe elements will cause riots, murder and mayhem. India knows it and in its self-interest and in the interest of all its citizens, India will not cede Kashmir.

By the way there is a fugitive arrest warrant issued against Bhutto---JPR

In an exclusive interview with rediff.com, Sethi dwelt upon the history of India and Pakistan and the misfortunes of his country that had led to one military regime after another. Jawaharlal Nehru, he said, carried out land reforms in India ("however insignificant you might think them to be"), which
ultimately reduced the influence of the landed feudal community. This resulted in the creation of a vibrant middle class in India, he said.
In Pakistan, no such reforms were introduced, Sethi said, adding that, in the past 50 years, the landed classes had blocked all attempts at democratic reforms. In addition, he said, India inherited the nationalist traditions of the Congress Party and, after Independence, the politicians took over power in that country.
