mPhase To Use IBM Silicon in Set-Tops
11/23/99 mPhase Technologies, a Norwalk-CT-based telco delivering voice, Internet, and DTV, has selected IBM?s latest MPEG-2 decoder chip as the main processor for its digital set-top box.

mPhase will incorporate IBM?s STB010x1 IC into their next generation XDSL digital set-top trademarked the Taverser Intelligent Network Interface (INI). The chipset integrates a PowerPC 401 processor, MPEG-2 decoder, and transport with optional Dolby Digital audio, a memory interface, and peripheral interfaces including smart card and parallel ports.

mPhase is currently testing its patented TRAVERSER digital video and data delivery system (DVDDS) technology in Hartwell, GA. The service, which promises to eventually deliver hundreds of DTV channels over existing phone lines, was developed by Georgia Tech and uses Rate Adaptive Digital Subscriber Line (RADSL) technology.
