Good question Dwane. There are several sources to determine institutional buying/selling. The best and most up to date sources are not free with the exception of company spokespersons.

In listing the free sources, lets start with a company's IR as the best source. They will tell you if there is institutional buying aND many times they are directly responsible for arranging the transaction.

Another free source that I like is to check on individual trades, looking for large blocks. Trades of at least 10,000 shares are likely to be institutional.

MSN is one free site that provides trade alerts when institutional activity picks up on a stock. Other sources of free information include news releases, SEC filings (13s) and a review of institutional data as provided in most stock sites for respective stocks on a quarterly basis and note new positions or an increase from prior quarters.

On Yahoo, for example, click on PROFILE and scroll down to HIGHLIGHTS, click on HIGHLIGHTS and you'll find a link to institutional ownership on the left hand margin. Unfortunatly, the Yahoo institutional listing often omits most mutual funds. Another useful feature on the Yahoo site is the Multex reports. Clicking on the Multex link while looking over a stock will give you a listing of all the free and $$$$$$ reports available. Read the free reports and search for the web sites of respective analysts that are offering coverage as indicated on the $$$$$$ reports. There may be a charge at Multex, but you'll find it for free at the respective web site.

Duane:

Here is what Sergio is talking about. I know it is about JBAK..just part of some research I'm doing, see if Sergio and I come up with the same things.

You get to this information by running a quote on the ticker you want. Note that there was a filing with the SEC as to large ownership of the stock. Click that link and read away on from the SEC filing. <ggggg>

Note also all of the alerts that have gone off on the stock, volume, undervalued etc. I don't own it yet but bet I do soon...TA or no TA. FA wise this stock is just too good to pass up.
