Jim - RE: "Well, this time AMD CAN deliver the higher speed chips in quantity..."

Damn straight! 700s are widely advertised and actually AVAILABLE.

"and actually make the OEM some money because the Athlon runs on good old PC100 RAM..."

You mean AMD isn't pushing some expensive, almost non-performance-gaining RAM on OEMs?

I called Compaq and got a salesman named Uri. I asked about the 750 being on their website and he said it isn't out yet because AMD hasn't announced it yet. Then he actually checked the website out for himself and was completely surprised the 750 was listed and that it was listed to him as available! He said the web guys get ahead of themselves sometimes so one may have to get on a waiting list until the chip is offically announced and THEN they will get the system shipped. I asked whether the Athlon or PIII sells better and he said with him it was the Athlon. He said he was getting HIMSELF an Athlon later this year. He said the AThlon has a faster bus and he said the FPU is faster than the PIIIs, but indirectly. I asked how he recommends processors from highest to lowest and he said Athlon, PIII, PII, K6-2, Celeron, and Cyrix. I laughed when he said Cyrix and he said to be fair he threw their name in. This guy knew his stuff.

I called one more time and was told (by Nathan this time) that the systems would get to the buyer within 24 days compared to 17 for the 700 and below. This makes sense because the 750 isn't expected to come out until next week. This guy also recommended the AThlon over the PIII.
