Voop, did JDSU create the last discontinuous innovation by the creation of Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (to allow the dispersion of multiple wavelengths of light to carry data along the glass network without signal degradation) and combining it with Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (to send additional wavelengths of light as discrete entities) and adding Fiber Gratings (filters to extract the particular wavelength of light you sent miles ago).

If so, did we miss the creation of a gorilla a year ago with
the creation of JDS Uniphase from JDS Fitel and Uniphase?

Will there be a new discontinuous innovation to supplant all of these factors/standards? If there is, is JDSU/JDU making efforts to buy up the rest of the component suppliers to lock their position and prevent the possibility of another discontinuous innovation.

Must re-read the chapter on this. My thinking on this relates to Intel in that they were chosen to provide the standard and as such became a gorilla. Have Lucent, Nortel and others made their decision for JDSU to provide the standard and therefore should be the gorilla in the matters of optical components? Or am I just stuck in my thinking on this matter and should just accept the anointed king?
