Check out NOPT.. Up 17+ today on partnership with Con Ed.

Posted the analysis below last April prior to the Gilder reco which ran it from 15 to 40. Up 17 and change again today I beliebve the analysis still holds. IMHO this is both a trading stock due to its volatility and a long term hold due to it strong backing by the utility industry in the Northeast. It is also an early implementer of the lastest and greatest Lucent fiber technology, so they will get good network rollout support from the vendor.

4/99 -Don't know about the recent spike, but I believe that their recent pullback from 17 in Feb. was due to management announcing accelerated network buildout. This may produce a short term drag on revenues, but possibly boost growth later on. They have sound backing from the Central Maine Power and Northeast Utilties (using utility/pipeline right of way for telecom is a proven, relatively low cost entry strategy), they serve a focused market in a high growth region, and have several long term contracts with folks like Hyperion, CTC Comm., Level 3, Harvardnet, et al. Looking at the market valuations of the larger players (Qwest, Level 3), the coming IPO of Williams Comm(WCG) (which should draw analysts attention to the sector) and the fact that a profitable regional fiber network may make a tasty tidbit for some larger carrier, make me look forward to the next 12 months.

My post from the 19th...at about 60.
