Re: TLAB's AN2100 Loss is good for NT's DSM Product

Ken,
I don't know if you caught my little blurb on the Last Mile concerning TLAB? But I listened to the entire TLAB CC last night. You'll hear some news that is very interesting for Nortel.

Birck (TLAB's CEO)said Sprint dropped the AN2100 project completely and is electing to go with Nortel's DSM product. Apparently the transistion costs of using TLABs AN2100 ATM gateway are pretty steep. Sprint is not ready for fully upgrading their backbone to voice/ATM.

Bottom line is this means that Sprint/MCI Worldcom is going to be installing a lot more Nortel equpiment into their network because, believe it or not, narrowband voice is growing so strongly.

Very good news for NT that I don't believe to many NT investors have made the connection on. I was pretty impressed especially considering TLAB's AN2100 was custom designed for the Sprint network. I was really blown away by the news.

Luckily TLAB's cockaroach, the Titan 5500, is going so strong it will make up for the loss of the Sprint contract.
