Scot, What I meant about levels was a gradation so that insurance company/hospital etc whould have one level of approval could access some records that are germane to their administrative aspects and medical people could have another level of access which may shut them out of administrative aspects. Different specialists would have their own code for their data and they could each implement sharing as warranted.
As to pharmacists and doctors having troubles with scrips....I agree, in this day and age there is no reason for that kind of error. The doctors computer could print a scrip that he would sign and it would not be photocopyable and in addition it could be archive in a data base that a pharmacist could access to bypass the need for pysical delivery of the scrip for a patient who wanted to buy on the web and the pharmacy needs a secure authenticated scrip. I am not sure how they handle it now as I have never bought medication over the web or phone from a remote site. I do know that doctors would not like to have phone calls from web sites to authenticate scrips so an online method is needed. I hear that Quebec has an online system that solves some of these problems and Ontario is in the process of developing one.
AMA....no money? Gwaan...you are joshing me. Well they certainly have a rich constituency. I suspect that not all doctors join as it ,ay seem to be a frivolous lobby group to some. I know they must join their state MA, but a federal one is voluntary.
