Ole 49r,

You profile doesn't seem to include the option of private messages, you might check that.

My dad has a few dozen wooden cabinetmaker's planes. Interesting that you would just happen to mention those.

We'll be looking for more Persian rugs. I remember an old WSJ cartoon, where this prosperous obviously well-fed guy looks out from behind his equally oversized desk and says, "My portfolio? You're standing on it!"

I have never know a Rose O'Neil Kewpie to sell for so much money! I am impressed. I must assume you had a original made by "her". I would have loved to see such a treasure. Got any pictures?

A few of the dealers I know have "joked" about trading a can of beans for a Handel lamp.

Lately we haven't been discussing it much. A independent lot we are, but with all this press making anyone a fool who prepares it comes up seldom. We are all waiting to see what happens.

As far as selling off to buy back cheaper when the recession comes I have wondered.

If I was convinced a nightmare was coming I would have dumped all my inventory, and some parts of my collection.

If things get bad enough who would want or need it?

Also if we have a gas crisis again common antiques would be slow. People do not travel to buy things they don't need.

The only thing you really need is water, food, shelter, and your friends.

Everything else is a dream.

I sell dreams!

Runner

PS I buy across the board. Cash flow is important. I collected collectors years ago, so I have quick outlets.

American painted furniture always needed. Pa. is the best. Original of course.
