TLTN News...this is one to watch IMO Teltrend Announces Successful Evaluation and Deployment of its ASTS System at a Major ILEC ST. CHARLES, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 24, 1999--Teltrend Inc. (NASDQ: TLTN) announced today the successful evaluation and deployment of Teltrend's ASTS(TM) Advanced Span Termination System and a quantity of HDSL2 circuits at a major incumbent Independent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) at multiple locations. This is the first commercial application of Teltrend's ASTS System and one of the Telecommunications Industry's first deployments of HDSL2 technology. The major ILEC has decided to continue use of Teltrend's ASTS System and HDSL2 products in selected areas. The ASTS System allows advanced ILECs and CLECs to very cost-effectively meet the rapidly growing demand for DS1 services with a fully network integrated Hi-Cap delivery system. Teltrend's HDSL2 products, based on the ANSI standard that is in the final stages of the approval process, allow service providers to deliver 1.544 Mbps DS1 service over a single copper pair. Teltrend's ASTS System is an integrated local loop transmission system for DS1 service providers, enabling broadband access for worldwide networks. The system is used to deploy DS1 services with copper based technologies such as T1, HDSL, and HDSL2, all of which can coexist in the same shelf and be managed with the same optional common controller card. Integrated into the system are capabilities such as high speed multiplexer interfaces (DS-3, STS-1, OC-3), 1XN protection switching, test access, OS access (X.25 or TCP/IP), full performance monitoring and complete diagnostics. The ASTS System conforms to the recently published Open Span Termination System standard (OSTS - see www.teltrend.com), is NEBS Level 3 compliant, and meets the stringent safety requirements of UL1950. ''We are pleased to be part of this major ILEC's HDSL2 deployment plans with the ASTS System that will help them drastically reduce their costs while increasing their circuit performance and reliability'', said Jack Parker, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Marketing at Teltrend. ''We look forward to continuing to provide this customer with the same high level of performance, quality and support our customers have come to expect from Teltrend.'' The Teltrend ASTS System was recently awarded the prestigious 1999 InfoVision Award by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC). Teltrend was recognized for this award during the 1999 National Communications Forum in Chicago on Tuesday, October 26. Teltrend Inc., established in 1979 with 500 employees worldwide, is headquartered in suburban Chicago. Teltrend designs, manufactures and markets a broad range of telecommunications and data communications products used by businesses and telephone companies to provide voice and data services. Teltrend's unique local telephone loop solutions -- developed for T1, HDSL, Fiber Optic, ISDN, DDS, and DLC applications -- allow telephone companies to provide new and better services to their customers without the need for costly infrastructure replacement. The Company's products are sold to the Regional Bell Operating Companies, GTE, Sprint, and other U.S. and International telephone companies. Teltrend's website can be found at teltrend.com .
