mouse, It is not that the Catholic church considers me a bastard because of my Faith, but because of what my blood, father did. He and my mother divorced when I was 6 mos old because he was having an affair with a woman, who happened to be catholic. The divorce was bitter, and animosity reigned for years thereafter. He, repeatedly asked her to sign some papers that would declare their marriage invalid and allow him to become Catholic. This would make me a bastard in the eyes of the Catholic church, so she refused to sign. She, and my grandmother were harassed for years by one priest, after another, to sign the papers or we would all go to hell. I secretly witnessed this on several occasions. When I was in my early forties, he wrote me saying his health was not the best and would I do him this, one last, favor so he could be buried in "Holy" ground. I decided, I didn't give a tinker's damn what the Catholic church thought of me, convinced my mother to sign, and was notified, verbally, that we were all going to hell because my mother had committed an unpardonable sin. I'm quite sure, the priest on the other end of the line thought he was talking to a drunken sailor before I got through.It was my father who sinned, and he lived another 15 years. As I said before, I have no beef with the individual catholics in the trenches but, have absolutely no use for the political operation in Rome. BTW, usted es uno Americano tambien.
