As I sit patiently waiting for the 27 pound turkey to cook (325') I'm stewing at a higher temperature. Seems the market doesn't open for business at 9:30 and close at 4:00. The on-line firm I trade with has a wrinkle; "...in certain situations, some NASDAQ orders may be processed between 9:00am and 4:30pm" they say...in a place you'd never look. Nor do they say what these "certain situations" might be.

I can tell you what one "situation" is. I entered a limit order to sell some LWIN at 35 5/8 at 9:20 a couple of weeks ago. When I saw the pre-opening bid starting to move up I did what I've done many times before. I cancelled my order to sell. Only I couldn't cancel it at 9:25 because it'd already been executed at 9:21 at 35 5/8... with the lowest bid at the time being 36 1/4.

Be wary of entering orders pre-market, thinking that nothing takes place before the 9:30 bell. It can and does. This was not an "extended-hours" order.
LWIN more than doubled within a week. Check your broker and the "small print" that can allow such practices. (Lee)
