Not trying to be contray but, doesn't gemstar have to be worth the money. I mean worth it's stock price.. I have not heard any projections of the market size or revenue sources etc. But to take off like a celluar phone company the market potential has to be huge.

The wild card is George Gilder

I understand that George does not watch television.
Don't hold your breath waiting for him on this one.

Gemstar does not need George Gilder! Anymore than AOL or Microsoft or any other great company needs George Gilder.
Keep in mind that Gilder is gifted at seeing the big picture. He has the ability to envision new technologies and their importance. And know which ones will work (CDMA/Qualcomm) and which ones won't. For years he has railed against AT&T and Microsoft (perhaps justifiably so), and he has not commented much on great performing companies like Dell or America Online. He is not a stock picker but a paradigm picker. He simply leaves a lot of great companies out of his analysis. However, I feel that if George Gilder were to meet Henry Yuen, and the two men talked, Mr. Gilder would come away impressed. He would probably give Gemstar and its founder a favorable paragraph or two in his monthly newsletter. But Gemstar will never need ink from George Gilder. The company has done pretty well on its own without a lot of hoopla, don't you think?
