Ian, <Then why is the new Nintendo coming with DDR SDRAM. Nintendo was the first RMBS customer; they obviously see advantages in DDR.>

It's apparent that Nintendo won't be using the normal version of DDR SDRAM. Rather, I think they're going with some sort of embedded version, radically different than what most people expect from DRAM technology.

Official details from Nintendo are still very sketchy. Are they using DDR SDRAM? DDR-II, as one article suggested? Embedded DDR? And why are they going with any form of DDR, considering that Sony decided RDRAM was good enough for the well-publicized Playstation II?

Ian,

"Then why is the new Nintendo coming with DDR SDRAM?".

For the same reason that SONY has gone to RDRAM

Actually though, I am guessing that it is more of a political decision, not wishing to be seen as in anyway copying SONY
