I see the mfg outsourcing plan as a contra signal of
selling the company. The only way Flynn would make such
a major decision like outsourcing is if the company was
allready sold and the new the buyer was allready calling
the shots.I doubt that this is the case.A more likely
explaination, this is just another last ditch attempt
at keeping NN viable.Either way Flynn is getting
the NN house in order.

"Contracting out mass manufacturing is also being planned. ``(It's) going to happen very, very fast. I think some of our competitors took
six to nine months, I hope to do it in half that time,' said Flynn.
``New product introduction is something we want to keep in house...untilwe have the product stable, we wouldn't outsource that.'"

Z.O: LU and NT are extremely keen on promoting Fibre. If the 128 channel DWDM is proven , there will be a surplus of Fibre capacity . In that event, it is likely that we will again see dedicated channels on Fibre in lieu of Copper.

Currently we are transmitting Point to Point, on IP, on ATM, on Sonet. With the availability of channels , OWAD capability and optical cross connects, it will likely be IP to Fibre directly and channel selection depending on the QoS demanded by the client.

How will this scenario affect the demand for the next generation ATM switches.?
