Thank you very much, Robert. Between the resource of your two links, I've pretty much got the picture. Residual questions: The one-to-one threading of Linux is an outcome of Linus' approach to simplicity and is a place where Linux parts company with POSIX?

Does any of this (server scalability, robustness) have anything to do with the development platform? That is, does it matter to the various JVMs what platform you develop Java on?

Lastly, is Java scalability independant entirely of the platform? That is, Windows can theoretically run as many Java connections as Solaris?

Here's an ironic result. I did a netcraft search of towerj.com (leading JVM vendor). They're running Apache mod_perl on Solaris. <g>
