Phil,

RE the large caps having already peaked: That's just what seems to be coming out of some of the institutions recently.
I've never known these guys to be absolutely right. Nor do I expect that this presumption might be.

Alan,

Yes, I've sold PUTs on Dell and some Semi Equipment Stocks and 1 biotech. I've only sold PUTs for companies that I'd like to own at a price that I'd be willing to pay. With Dell, I've never had an early assignment; and I've only been required to buy the PUTs back once because they went deep in the money (part of a roll out and down strategy). I've bought others back to lock in profits and regain use of my margin for other purposes.

I wouldn't advise anyone to start trading options without substantial education first, followed by a year of paper trading only. The risks of unexpected losses are just far too great for the average options novice.

In any case, much of the gain can be had directly in the stock without adding the risks of total loss and limited time.

FWIW,
Ian.
