You forget that AtHome has a customer installation backlog. It is a fact that excess demand exists for the service, therefore, what strategic advantage does a deal with AOL do to increase customer subscriptions? Nothing. The AOL community is well aware of ATHM and does not need AOL to spread the word that it is available, they are merely waiting for their coaxial to be upgraded. Edamo mentioned the ancient argument that a deal with AOL/ATHM was essentially crucial because of AOL's superior advertising and e-commerce penetration, which is currently fact. The realisation is that ATHM can actually develop a superior and more effective advertising and e-commerce solution quite easily through implementation of their broadband initiative. How can AOL provide a superior broadband solution to counter this with 56k dial-up? And before you say it, lose the Hughes argument because we both know it doesn't hold water. Take another hard think about who needs who, and more importantly who doesn't need who.

aol has subscribers, athm has broadband. athm wants more subscribers, aol wants broadband......not a bad trade off....everyone benefits...and regulatory problems vanish

An AOL deal would do nothing to increase @HOME subscriber numbers. Read the thread, I suggest starting in Jan/99. Your post shows confusion of @HOME's issues.
