Price the key when Germans pick online service-poll BERLIN, Nov 25 (Reuters) - Internet users in Germany say price is the most important factor when choosing an online service provider, over service or a clear pricing structure, a new study released on Thursday revealed. Industry magazine Online Today said a new survey conducted with opinion research firm Forsa showed that 38 percent of online users polled said that they had chosen the service provider with the best price. Twenty percent of users said that a straight-forward pricing structure had been the deciding factor. Online Today said that leading German online service provider T-Online, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG <DTEG.DE>, was considered the fastest and cheapest service, followed by the number two in the market, AOL Europe, a subsidiary of America Online Inc <AOL.N> and Bertelsmann AG <BTGGga.F>. AOL came out on top, however, among users who spent more than 15 hours per month online, due to a pricing structure favoring longer use. Online Today said 505 German Internet users had been polled. T-Online has nearly 4.5 million users in Germany while AOL Europe has just over 1.2 million, according to figures by the German Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority printed on Thursday by business daily Handesblatt. AOL cut its prices in October and pursues a strategy of offering more services including chats and shows to draw more demanding Internet users. Handelsblatt reported that the company plans to expand its original content and develop thematic channels for children, women and car lovers in the coming months. REUTERS Rtr 11:35 11-25-99
