Not saying elements may or may not be true. but tHE rEGISTER has a way of getting details mixed up. Sources close to the company say that it will be able to launch a 1GHz Athlon in January, if it so chooses. "> We'll see. So are you and tHE rEGISTER saying AMD will introduce 1GHz parts in January, when AMD's own Chief Scientist says the middle of '00? It's funny how a leaked Intel Marketing MHz roadmap elicits all sorts of diatribe about how that won't be competitive, when it essentially matches AMD's own published MHz maps. <<AMD wins must shiver inteL's timbers"> Of course. Intel takes all competitors seriously. BTW, AMD is obviously competing at the moment. The purpose of this little ditty isn't to dis AMD's recent competitive efforts, which are actually quite commendable in some respects, it's to poke fun at your interpretation of tHE rEGISTER reports. <and not least (but far more subtle) "AMD patents chip design..."> What does this really mean DRBES? Give us some analysis on what market segment this design will be targeted at, what designs will it be competing against, etc. <It would appear that the emperoR has no clothes and only the emperoR, some analysts, and, perhaps, pauL do not know it.> My take is that you are under estimating your champion's opponent. Your penchant for posting all rEGISTER tabloid headline grabbers suggests to me you are not seriously analyzing the situation. BTW, there is one poster, whom is generally considered to be an AMDer, whom I believe has the situation nailed. But this person actually does some serious analysis, and for the most part, keeps any zeal he feels for AMD as "his champion" in check when actually attempting to actually determine what everything actually means to the bottom line. Actually, my stance is both companies should do reasonably well this Q. Probably into Q's one and two also, if demand remains high, and both companies execute on the manufacturing level. I believe AMD sticking to Al for another 2 quarters (when I came on the thread, the consensus was Q4 for production out of Dresden), may be a good move for them. PB

"Increasing the speed grades is mostly a matter of when AMD decides they want to print a new box and label new packages.'" That is so awesome, especially because the quote came from a trustable source. Maybe the 750s are as easy to make as the 500 and 550s were. When reviews come out, we should be able to see how high it can be overclocked and sold at. "Regards and happy Thanksgiving" And to you and everyone else, Happy Turkey Day!
