The latest in the long series of post-Soviet nightmare bureaucratic intrigues. Nearly every western company who has opened shop in the FSU has eventually left,, happy to break even.

My bet is that the whole deal was set up for Tyumen to waltz in a grab it right on oil's uptick, just as the capital's beginning to flow in.

BPA paid $571 million for a measley 10%, two years ago. Now Tyumen (a company not unknown to controversey) has picked up 100% for $178 million.

Not a bad deal, Da?
