. . . . . . . . Posted by Special Request. . . . .RE: Donations . . . .

As the retired manager of a food pantry in [Michigan], which I managed
for 12 years, I have just been blown away by what you wrote today
concerning food for the needy. You touched on every aspect of the
business I know so well. Our 600 families were eligible for food each
month plus Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our cash budget was
$125,000 but we distributed around $300,000 when donated food was
added in.

This was a paying job for me, therefore the heartbreak of the need
that exists was pushed to the back of my mind, while I worked 16 hours
a day at holiday time, planning, coordinating, soliciting donations,
and pulling the whole thing off with the help of 50 volunteers. 200
turkeys, 700 chickens, 1200 dozen eggs, 1200 bread, tons of canned
goods, well, you know. Since I retired in 1994 and moved to [Missouri], I discovered that I cannot watch the needy eating their free Thanksgiving dinner on television. The stories will come on TV on the 5:00 news, sure as I am sitting here, I will start crying and leave the room.

In these prosperous times of late where 400 millionaires are created
in the markets each month, those in need are with us in larger numbers
than ever before, due to the reduction of welfare payments that is
taking place. I am thrilled that you put this message about the needy
on your thread.

Rande, you are truly a brilliant man and a wonderful writer. If I
never traded another stock, I would read your thread just to see what
you would write about next. Is there anything you don't know? I doubt
it! Do you have 48 hours days? I think so! LOL

Your paragraph about, "When you give, tell nobody. I have read that ten times. The rewards come back, many, many times over.

But, in order to bring a new cause to the forefront, I "have to tell
somebody." My cause now is buying dentures anonymously for indigent
people who fall through the welfare cracks. This is the third year now
I have been doing this. Welfare pays for pulling teeth and will not
pay for dentures. The rich dentists should donate a few sets of
dentures each year. But they don't, so I pay for a couple sets a year
when I hear of truly worthy people. This donation gives the recipients
back their self esteem which, in turn, lets them join the workforce.
It also saves them from a life of gastric problems which I suffer with
and I have always had teeth. Can you even imagine going through
life without teeth? I can't. I don't know who has received my
donation, but the intermediary has obtained a thankyou card and
forwarded it to me (so I can cry some more LOL). I don't need the
thankyou cards, because I already know I have made a huge difference
in someone's life. That is my thanks, that someone is better off and
will be for many years to come.

Last Christmas, when Tokyo Joe was still at his SI site, I sent him a
PM, telling him of this very personal, very private donation that
people can make anonymously. I gave him permission to clean up the
post to remove all trace of where it came from and to then put it on
his site if he felt it was worthy. He posted my message, so I now feel
there are others in cyberspace who have joined me in my cause to help
people to smile and chew their food, two of the real basics in this
life.

If you would like to clean this up and post it on your site, go ahead.
I had better quit rambling. I have lost my ISP twice while writing
this and if I lose this message, I will not be happy.

Rande, once again, you are brilliant. Of the millions people in
cyberspace there are only two I would like to meet. You are one of
them.

I hope you had a very enjoyable and relaxing Thanksgiving.

Rande: Thanks for taking the time to lead the thread in a deeper area, because its "just not about money" is it? There are a lot of people out there who loose sight of that fact in their pursuit of personal gain and greed, it is very easy to get "de-sensitived" as we churn huge dollar amounts every day, if we have no foundation other than just "money", it can be a very empty existence. I find your thoughts very stimulating, and yes i like to play the game as well as anyone, but I appreciate your taking the time to remind us, "its not just about money", I sense there is a deeper spiritual side to you that is good to hear about on these special days. As for myself, I am thankful not so much for the ability to make a lot of money, but the ability to share it with family and friends, and be sensitive to the needs around me. It has been my experience, that the more God can trust you with, the more he will give you, and adding up what God has given me outside of "just money", makes me very thankful this day.

Thankyou for the leadership you provide this thread

God Bless
