SCOPE: Did you ask Waterhouse why they executed your trade prior to the opening? Were you satisfied with their explanation? Your experience is very similar to mine; unable to cancel a limit order prior to 9:30 when it was clear the stock was gapping up. Has anyone else experienced the same? I've never had a trade executed prior to the opening at my price when the pre-market price was at or lower than my limit. This may all be kosher, but it has a foul smell and the appearance of impropriety. (Lee)

(OT) Interesting information 'Gemmers: "... NASDAQ orders may be processed between 9:00am and 4:30pm because NASDAQ does not have an OFFICIAL OPENING as does the NYSE at 9:30am. Market makers (NASDAQ) can start trading and updating their bids from 9:00am." Be wary if you enter orders before 9:30...it the bid starts to run up, you may not be able to cancel a limit order to sell if you change your mind and want to hold the stock. The same is probably true if you place an order to buy and decide you want to cancel. I suspect that these market-makers will boink you badly if given the chance. They did me. (Lee)
