Sam -- any EXODUS of the size you mentioned would be due to much more than Y2K. When it comes to real $$$ lets say you bail AOL & T to protect profits and plant to come back in Jan. If they do not go down more than 30% you lose as most city, state, fed tax bills will take close to 40% on a st and 30% on a LT investment. Then you add the fees in,,, granted there is a herd mentality but the heard is not stupid to that extreme. The probability of T having a problem is nearly zilch. Could a 'puter bite and they not be able to bill,,, possible but they would still provide the service. There will be minor agrivations but it is beginning to be the butt of jokes since most believe the agrivation experienced will be small. Hostess is going to put Twinkees into boxes that state the contents are Y2K compliant. Other companies are also playing it down. For the past 6 - 9 months your bank and broker statements are telling you all is well.... The postal service is ready,,, the fears of microwaves , vcrs and most all embedded chips are not even considered. The only things that IMO stand the best chance of happening,,1. Everyone will pick up a phone to hear the dial tone,,, a telco overload is possible for a few moments. and 2. power surges due to equipment being shut down and brought back up may cause problems. Many furnaces (gas & oil) have an old style fuse, even in new homes, near the service switch,,, I'll have an extra. I'll shut all except one 'puter down at 11:pm 12/31 and not bring the others up until next required. May even shut the one down prior to midnight for 35 minutes,, only due to power surge concerns-- nothing Y2K. Rambled enough but REALLY believe the frightened money is out and some new money is on the sidelines. Mon 1/3/00 money should be poured into the mkts... all JMBS (just my B S ) LOL! of course
