Talisman: Big, bad oil companies - The Globe & Mail, Nov.26

W. P. (Bill) Godfrey
Friday, November 26

Calgary -- It's open season on Talisman. From the Ontario teachers to
Lloyd Axworthy right down to politically correct concerned citizens, the
denunciations rain down on the company (Holding Talisman
Accountable -- Comment, Nov. 23). When poor Jim Buckee plaintively
asks, "Why Talisman, and not the dozens of companies falling all over
each other to invest in Russia, China and Cuba," he is met with more
sneers and vilification.

He probably knows the answer: His company is an oil company and it's
based in Calgary. Not only that, it's making a profit. It's just too much of
a target for those who are fond of bashing Alberta and oil companies. All
of central Canada knows that all oil companies, especially those in
Alberta, exist only to inflict environmental damage. And every good
big-government-loving Canadian knows that profits are a bad thing.
