South Korean Firms Join Forces For W-CDMA System
RDSL
25 November 1999
SK Telecom (S Korea), mobile service provider, LG Information & Communication (LGIC), Daewoo Telecom, Hyundai Electronics and 49 smaller firms in S Korea have joined forces for development of a wide-band code division multiple access (W-CDMA) system. Trial system deadline for the IMT-2000 service is December 2000.

The firms will also develop roaming technology to be used with W-CDMA protocol systems from NTT DoCoMo (Japan) and Nokia (Finland). SK telecom said, early in October 1999, that it will invest Won123.3 billion to develop IMT-2000 systems together with equipment makers and venture firms.

Jon, if the reason for the remand is what has been rumored, i.e., upholding the FCC's position re. bankruptcy court jurisdiction (lack thereof) to alter terms of the C-bloc spectrum auction, that thread is going to be even more sparsely attended (un<g>).

Happy holidays to you, Sharon and kids. How's it going with casaconstruct2?
