2100 Series UniPorte Architecture?
in a PCI Adapter

Mapletree Networks is changing the rules of the game for next-generation access technology by bringing their revolutionary UniPorte Architecture to the PCI Adapter form factor.

The Mapletree Networks 2100 Series PCI Card is a full-size PCI adapter card for IBM PC compatible machines that have an internal PCI bus. These adapters are available in options that support between 12 and 120 universal ports. A universal port is a port that can process analog or digital data, in either modem, fax or voice formats. The 2100 Series modules are designed for use by OEMs as a sub-component to an overall solution offering. OEM-ready solution
T1 and E1 functionality
Process any call type
Future-proof design
H.100 or MVIP interface to WAN Adapter
PCI bus interface to Host
High density--12 to 120 ports per card
Low power consumption--21W max for 120 ports
Comprehensive real time management

Mapletree Networks UniPorte Architecture (patent pending)
Mapletree Networks' UniPorte Architecture is at the core of the 2100 Series UniPorte PCI Adapter Card family. The adapter is the first member in a family of products that will leverage Mapletree's 1000 Series modules and their UniPorte Architecture.

These adapters are built on high-performance RISC & DSP processors and proprietary Mapletree Networks software and ASICs. The UniPorte architecture provides virtually any access application on any port and incorporates emerging applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and Fax over IP (FoIP) with no changes to existing hardware. UniPorte-based products also set new industry benchmarks in density, scalability, power consumption, heat dissipation, port cost and overall system cost--all the key metrics of industry leading network access sub-system performance.

Applications
When combined with one or more PRI or BRI WAN cards, the 2100 Series PCI card offers unmatched port capacity on a single adapter card. The figure below shows an example of a typical NT RAS application.

A typical MTN2100 application in which a WAN card, the MTN2100 and a Network Interface Card (NIC) combine to form a robust high-density NT RAS Server

OEM-Ready Solution
The Mapletree Networks team has a long track record of successful OEM partnerships. The 2100 Series of products has been designed to combine technology leadership, quality and minimal time to market for OEMs. The Mapletree Networks' 2100 Series is a turnkey solution, which includes a Microsoft Windows NT Driver and a Driver Development Kit.

T1 and E1 Functionality
The 2100 Series Adapters support both T1 and E1 configurations. The adapters are available in nine different models that allow for complete flexibility to support the desired number of spans of either T1 or E1, up to the maximum of five T1 or four E1 spans.

Process Any Call Type
Each 2100 Series adapter processes up to 120 calls in the following formats: analog data or fax (modem), digital data (ISDN), fax over IP (FoIP) and voice over IP (VoIP). In the previous example of an NT RAS application, modem and ISDN data are supported natively by Microsoft Windows NT but fax and voice support require additional resources from the OEM beyond a WAN adapter. The resources required to support inbound and outbound fax and voice calls are at the application level and depend on the levels of service required.

The MTN2100 is composed of a full-length PCI adapter motherboard and up to three MTN1024P Universal Access Modules. This flexibility of configurations allows the MTN2100 to support anywhere from 12 to 120 universal ports.

Future-Proof Design
The 2100 Series' soft port architecture and high-end RISC processor design ensure that there is enough processing power available to support updates and emerging technologies, and that any upgrades to these technologies can be accomplished via a software change only.

H.100 or MVIP Interfacing to WAN Adapter
All 2100 Series adapters process calls to and from the WAN adapter via an H.100 Enterprise Computer Telephony Forum standard interface. This is one of the industry-standard time division multiplexed interfaces used to transfer data between network interface adapters (WAN cards) and call processing adapters (modem or UniPorte Architecture based cards).

The H.100 TDM interface can also communicate with a WAN adapter using the Multi-Vendor Integration Protocol (MVIP) interface via a standard H.100-to-MVIP translating connector.

PCI Bus Interface To Host
The 2100 Series adapters comply with Peripheral Components Interface (PCI) version 2.1 as the means of communicating with the host system bus. These adapters can therefore be used on any host system whose internal bus accepts the standard PCI adapter card signaling and form factor.

High Density
The Mapletree Networks 2100 Series adapters are available in several port configurations between the minimum of 12 and the maximum of 120 ports. This equates to five T1 spans or four E1 spans on a single full-size adapter for the highest density available in the industry. See the Model Number section for specific configurations and part numbers available.

Low Power Consumption
The 120-port MTN2100 adapter consumes a maximum 21 watts of power, with a heat dissipation of 71.65 Btu/hour. This is comparable to adapters from other vendors offering only 24 to 30 modems per card. Today's high-speed CPUs generate a tremendous amount of heat in a typical PC chassis. In addition, the PC platform market is extremely aggressive from a cost of production and market pricing standpoint. These two factors make for very tight thermal margins in an effort to balance minimum cost with cooling constraints. As a result, adapter card vendors are being forced to give more consideration than ever to power consumption and heat dissipation within PC chassis.

Comprehensive Real Time Management
The host system has the ability in real time to send control commands to, or retrieve call data from, any of the ports on the adapter with no interruption to calls in process. This means that the building blocks are in place for a Network Management Application to implement any level of management desired.
