AT&T Considers IPO for Wireless Unit, Wall Street Journal Says

New York, Nov. 26 (Bloomberg) -- AT&T Corp., the largest U.S. long distance phone company, is considering an initial public offering for its wireless unit, the Wall Street Journal said, citing people familiar with the situation. The share sale would be the biggest ever in the U.S., raising between $8 and $10 billion, the Journal reported, saying between 10 and 15 percent of the business would be sold. AT&T is moving forward with plans to issue a tracking stock for its business; the company declined comment, the Journal said.

AT&T is expected to spend $1.2 billion to offer local phone and data services to homes and businesses through wireless equipment next year, and the plans will be disclosed at a Dec. 6 analysts' meeting.
