Ike, any thoughts on the BOE auction?

Re. Y2K, I saw the press briefing the other night by Rep. Horn who issued the report cited here:

news.cnet.com

The interesting thing is that this report and the press briefing I saw were very different. Horn was generally positive but very circumspect regarding several issues. For example, he was very critical of the IRS which by most accounts is almost certain to have major outages. Also, he talked about numerous areas in the country where Federal housing projects would likely have failures and STILL had not even been tested (New Orleans being one).

A lot of the briefing talked about this:

<< In a change from previous surveys, the chairman of the subcommittee, Rep. Stephen Horn (R-Calif.) decided not to issue grades for more than 40 vital government programs, including Medicaid and Medicare. As the committee sees it, many programs dependent on the states and private organizations are not completely ready for the transition to 2000.>>

Regards, Ken.
