ALCATEL (38-1/2, up 3 @ 10:02 am ET) expects explosive growth in Internet use and electronic commerce to fuel its future growth in China, a senior company official said. "The main opportunity today is to build the network for the Internet," Ron Spithill, Alcatel's president for the Asia-Pacific region, told reporters. "To me, that's the number one challenge for the whole industry," he said. "It's certainly the number one challenge here in China."
