STAN OVSHINSKY KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT
GLOBAL NEW ENERGIES ROUNDTABLE; SELECTED
AS FINALIST FOR WORLD TECHNOLOGY AWARD FOR ENERGY

Mr. Stan Ovshinsky, president, CEO and co-founder of Energy Conversion Devices, Inc., and Dr.
Geoffrey Ballard, founder of Ballard Power Systems, were the keynote speakers at the second
annual Global New Energies Roundtable held on November 7-9, 1999, in Cambridge, England. The
Global New Energies Roundtable II, sponsored by Shell International, Syntroleum and Honda and
organized by Montreux Energy Limited, London, brought together industry leaders to discuss
technological transformations taking place in the global transportation and energy industries. Mr.
Ovshinsky discussed ECD's hydrogen technology at the closing keynote address on November 9.
This event was private and attendance was by invitation only.

On November 12, 1999, Mr. Ovshinsky was selected as one of only five finalists for the World
Technology Award for Energy. These awards, held in association with the Economist magazine,
were created to honor those who "most contribute to the advance of emerging technologies of all
sorts for the benefit of business and society" and "those individuals whose work today will create the
greatest 'ripple effects' in the future."

World Technology Network (http://www.wtn.net/) is a new, global community of about 200 of the
key players in all of the major emerging technologies.
