RE>> I am curious as to what has happened with this fellow since. Would you mind sharing that? <<

I share your curiousity... It was a long time ago (20 years) and I was driving Taxi - "trying" to spread the Gospel. It was very heavy because I was never confronted by such a heavy situation of self reflection from anyone in all the hours I had wasted talking to a lot of people who's only interest was some fellowship, a little intellectual wranglings, and philosophic play.

At the time that those words came from my mouth it was as much or perhaps even more of a revelation to me. I do not believe that people who try to evangelize are always doing more for others than themselves. There is great learning through experiences in Christ.

RE>>don't you think it would be a real shame if that fellow refused to accept that God hated him and continued<<

A real shame ? Why because he could have been committing all that fornication, drunkenness, lying and the such ? Because he sacrificed all that delectible sin only to find out he received no reward ? Sin is the fruit of the flesh and the evil one. It is the love of sin that your question reveals and in fact that justifies God's hatred ot the wicked.

*IF* the man was utterly assured of God's hatred he would not have asked me that question... He was questioning in light of what a mess his life was. It is often God's grace to the Elect that they cannot succeed in the world without Him. Look at the prodical son.. his riotous living in the great design and ordination of God was meant to drive him back to the Father. It is the wicked who find no suffering in their sin in this world very often.

Psalm 73:3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.
5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

Read the whole Psalm 73 The psalm is teaching that the wicked often prosper and suffer no immediate consequence for sin... They are certainly not likely to sit and fret about How God views them, indeed most deny God even exists.

I believe a lot of men who make it to heaven reach places where they believe God must or at least may hate them.

When you study Peter's relationship with Christ much can be gleaned. Both Peter and Judas denied Jesus ! Both of them added a little something towards the death of the Lord.

What did Judas do when he realized he was a hated one ?

Do you not think it possible that Peter may have considered killing himself as well ? Would you ? I would and have.

Luke 22:62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

How sure of Christ's love do you think he was at that moment ? Having both cursed him and denied even knowing him and joining that angry crowd out of fear!

If a man operates on the "assumption" that God loves him it would be in place of committing suicide and going to hell at that very moment. It is a place of hope ! Remember what Jesus said to Cain.

Genesis 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

Was God being a hypocrite by saying this when he knew Cain would slay Abel ? Surely this is said for our sakes.

Men will not be able to plainly blame God for not choosing them as the sole means of their damnation !

My advice to this fellow was to push on * as if * God loves him ... if he as Cain or Judas merely threw in the towel and committed suicide would be sealed !

Could Judas have repented and been loved... NO !

John 6:70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

Children of the evil one remain his.

1 John 3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

Children of the evil one remain his.

Was this fellow that night of the Evil One ???

He was ordained to be in My Taxi that night. He was ordained as was I to have that conversation and both of us not even questioning that God could perhaps hate either one of us.

You see Bruce... I was sharing those same thoughts of myself !

I was wondering "with him" what WE SHOULD DO...... do we just pack our bags and go to hell like Judas... or do we try and hope that we are another Peter.

I don't know who he was but I know now who I am. He could have been an angel for all I know.
I do know this. If indeed he was one of my brothers in Christ he does not forget that night either.

RE>>Since you haven't yet reached the end, wouldn't it be presumptuous of you to assume that you are one of the elect at this point in time. <<

This is a good question. Are all men completely free from ALL DOUBT concerning their calling ? Do you think that Paul's name could have been "blotted out" Are our names merely "penciled in"

Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather REJOICE, because your names are written in heaven.

Would Jesus be saying " Rejoice because your names are "penciled in" heaven ???

You are taking the words " blotted out " very literally. The Bible talks about those who "Fall Away" but it always teaches that they were not "of us" or that would not have happened. Does God literally enter names that He later has to erase ? That would be a very short sighted God indeed. God writes things in manners that Men can understand. ( Although none can know anything except it be granted ) Do I ever wonder if I am deluded or merely assuming ? Or as one detractor accused Hallucinating ?

The evil one convinces men who are not saved that they are just fine as is... and those who are saved he badgers "day and night" trying to take their assurance of salvation.

Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Again:

Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

When I said to you - you cannot look into the Book and are not worthy. I meant it and still do... That is not how we get our assurance. If indeed we as sinful men could take a peek and say ... "Oh see there - I'm in" would we be better men for it ? The Bible teaches that men are not saved BY their Will but it also does not teach they are saved WITHOUT their WILL... We must be made willing by the Holy Spirit and will to do God's Will.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

People constantly accuse me of teaching that men have NO WILL
=============================================================================

How do I know that I am Chosen or How can you know..by continuing... Those that endure to the end and are saved are HIS.

1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

We know by our experience that Christ is working by the power of his spirit in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure. Therefore we know that our names are in the book of life. Those who do not confess Christ.. may be there and maybe tomorrow may join us... if they die without joining us then they were not written in the Book of Life with the Blood of the Lamb !

Bruce I want to ask you a question for a change.

What do you think the following verse teaches and why ?

2 Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure : for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
