TDMA averages about 4 since they have sparse coverage. I claim that as they push density, they approach the true K=5 reuse that they need, but perhaps since teh TDMA phones have not been much improved since they were rolled out, they may need more due to inferior front end filters on the phones, hence, for a real dense microcell environment like NYC, I claim that they will need at least K=7.

GSM has a better front end filter system and has been improving along with the latest technology, so I would believe that a GSM system could hold closer to the reuse of 3, although they still suffer from the adjacent cell problem alot more than CDMA, and it may push the actual cell reuse higher in order to keep the same call quality.

But then if AT&T wanted to just advertise coverage and didn't care about call quality (like the NYC market has been for some time now), then I gues they can just blindly put in cells at K=4 and move on. Of course the phone usage would be disaster....
