CPQ is making one HELL of a turnaround.
Today was a nice breather, but I'm confident we have a lot of upside coming to us. Why?...

1) We're now in the ASP business in a deal w/ CWP (interesting that CWP just announced a deal w/ CMGI's 1stUp.com today too). ASP's are expected to grow tremendously over the coming years as companies outsource their application infrastructure.

2) They have some incredibly sexy new PC's. This, IMO, is about the MOST important thing for CPQ. Why? Because what ELSE really differentiates one PC from another?? Service, reliability, price, etc. are all so similar in this market. I also like the size and hardware design of the new PC's... AWESOME! If you haven't seen any of them, pick up the recent copy of Fortune Magazine... they're on the front cover. :-) Also, there's another cool design called the iPaq, a cheaper "Internet Device": directplus.compaq.com
Here's the new Presario: athome.compaq.com

3) Pure valuation. With sales, earnings will come after a little shake-up, etc, which has already happened quite a bit. Now look at these P/S comparisons:
CPQ: 1.06
HWP: 2.33
IBM: 2.25
DELL: 4.75
HMMMMMM.....

4) CMGI connection will ensure Internet success. They own 18 million shares of CMGI (or $2.5 BILLION worth of CMGI), and their agreement to cooperate in developing new Internet technologies over the next 3 years will really put CPQ on the map. Also of note is CPQ's venture investments, some alongside CMGI's @Ventures fund. CPQ is "only" a $40 Billion company, so appreciation in CMGI will indeed add decent value to CPQ. I also anticipate a $5 Billion price tag on Alta Vista when it goes public next March, which CPQ still owns a holding in. Also, CMGI's huge new CMGI Solutions company will bring CPQ some great business IMO.

5) Wireless. The rumor has been out there... now let's see the deal!

Now let's Rock!

Merced Trader,
I wonder why shorts always appear to be so angry and their spelling is much worst then mine.

Now theres a man who speaks his mind!! haha. He said there are a 1,000 better stocks to be long in! Cant speak to the numbers but I figure there are many better stocks to be short in also. How far does anyone think this stock could drop under nearly any circumstances? For me, I see 18 as the rock bottom low worst case example. In reality probably the low 20's is more likely. Course on the opposite side, I would consider 30 the maximum near term potential and that would require some good news AND the elimination of some bad news such as that he presented. JDN

Merced; That yahoo guy made me laugh as I know he is just blowing
smoke , hell anyone who is healed enough to short that much wouldn't
even be posting. He is likely short about 100 shares and at 20
not 26..LOL.
-----------------
To bad he didn't put the CMGI deal into prespective,
the 17% CPQ owns is now worth a 3.08B & he never looked
at it or he damm sure wouldn't have gone short.
