Taipei, Nov. 29 () -- Taiwan's semiconductor industry will produce $16.4 billion worth of chips next year, the Commercial Times reported, citing a report by the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Industrial Development Bureau. The IDB forecast sales will continue to rise, reaching $45 billion in 2006. The growth suggests Taiwan will hold a 6.93 percent global market share next year, rising to 9.72 percent in 2006, the paper said.

The U.S., Japan and South Korea are the world's three largest producers of semiconductors.
