A quick look at those companies seems to indicate that they are not only "nets" as your post indicated....there are semiconductor companies, internet infrastructure companies, telecom build-out companies, software companies, as well as true internet e-business companies....this doesn't invalidate your questions, just broadens the possible sources of future revenues and profitability.
