>>>PartyTime, have you encountered any difficulties with NetZero as your primary ISP during the time that you've used it?<<< Go to the Motley Fool NetZero thread and read the comments of TFNico. He describes both NetZero and ZeroPort very well. The posts I'm referring to are within the first 50 or so. >>>Since I moved back to the US, I've been testing a number of fee-based ISPs and I've noticed that NetZero and Altavista give service nearly as good in terms of connect speed. The one time that I used NetZero to download a large file it was a bit slow -- I don't know if the problem was with NetZero or the site I was downloading the file from.<<< There are smart upgrades available for NetZero which enhance its delivery. Check the customer care center of NetZero's website for further details. >>>Altavista threatens to kick the user off if they don't click on advertisements frequently. Netzero just threatened to kick me off because of inactivity for a couple of minutes. However, even the fee-based ISPs log me out from time to time.<<< It's true that NetZero is equal if not superior in quality to other ISPs in so far as effectiveness. As more and more free ISPs become available, I simply don't see the need for a paid service. I use NZRO for access, RagingBull for email, AOL-Netscape for instant messaging and Schwab for trading. And it all works fine! Indeed, having NZRO helps to blunt Schwab's high trading fees. One of the features I like about NZRO is the customized stock ticker tape on ZeroPort. It allows you to track your very own stocks as they cross the ticker tape. That's handy. >>>Are there concerns of the free ISP closely monitoring the pages the user visits?<<< If you're doing something wrong, hey, the heat's gonna get ya whether you're using NZRO or not. All NZRO does is track where you go so it can aim the applicable banner ad to you. I think most folks would find this as a service, more than anything else. >>>Also, are there concerns about security even if the user is logged on to a secure web site? Thanks for any assistance.<<< NetZero is a member of all of the vanguard organizations which are protective of security. It's just like any paid ISP in this regard.
