Webpc is priced with DellNet whether you use it or not, as posted earlier (so the package price will be over $500, IMO).

Not much to go by except guesswork. Dells previous low
price for full-blown machine was about $899.
Should easily produce smaller, designed for mass market, WebPc for $300(no floppy)less for under $599.
What would MSD enjoy more, in exchange for those nasty 'day
before earnings' comments by 5fer, than to sell it for less
than the $548 Cpq item ???
Yet Dell, with their quality recognition, could chose
to charge the higher prices in the low price field.
Summary
Your guess as good as anybody on the Dell price. My guess $539

Dog,

I suspect that CPQ is not making any significant money in the low end of the consumer business. Their need to sell and service low end machines through retail channels seems highly inefficient. DELL's direct model would have a distinct advantage over CPQ's channel model. The question really is "what percentage of the consumer market can DELL reach without having a retail channel?"
