Makes sense, but where do these story stocks come from??? I popped over to the Raging Bull site only to learn from their front page that ADSP was a second-tier networking company and the hot topic of the day was whether or not it would become the *dominant* second-tier player! A company that repackages 56k dial-up gear is in the same league as CS and NN?

That would make ADSP an "Anthony@Pacific type short." He's been pretty successful shorting substandard stocks that have run up on momentum alone. As I understand how he trades, Anthony frequently doesn't take a full position initially, but legs into a short. And I suspect he's got the margin to withstand a big run up before the ultimate collapse. A lot of others on these threads don't have that kind of money to play with, and shorting story stocks can be a good way to deplete the trading cash.
