And though Sun Microsystems Inc.'s Solaris is
a comparatively small player in the market
for Unix-based server operating systems...

<mouth agape>

The person who wrote this piece is an id... let me put it *this way; Dale J wouldn't even say something like that.

Anyway, the article goes on to mix workstation and servers, and apparently show Sparc/Solaris strengths to the author's amazement.

Some of those numbers (service/support) weren't so hot. Considering Sun is the only vertical company in the bunch (despite Compaq's efforts to the contrary), there's some room for improvement.

On the upgrade issue. How many respondents actually UPGRADED NT? None? Maybe they just THINK they've already upgraded to NT5 because of the patches. On the other hand, LOTS of folks have upgraded from Solaris 2.5 to 2.7, from other platforms (unices), from entire other architectures (like Windows) to Solaris. There really isn't a comparison to make on the "upgradability".

Overall, I thought the survey was a kinda fluffy headed. But that's just me (fluffy headed) <g>.
